Break Dancing, also called B-Boying is the original Hip Hop dance which originated in the streets of New York City in the early 1970’s. Breaking became popular in the South Bronx as an alternative for inner city youth to stay out of street gangs. Soon enough the B-Boys & B-Girls joined Breaking Crews and decided to battle it out on the dance floor instead of fighting over differences.
B-Boying demands attention and respect, whether in the studio, on the streets, in the clubs or when performing on stage. This is an exciting dance which requires frequent practice, fitness conditioning, creativity and patience to understand and execute the high energy dance moves.
In the beginners to intermediate class, you will learn the history of the dance and the four elements of what we call Toprock, Downrock, Freezes and Power Moves. Together we will study the dynamics of the popular moves such as the back spin, windmills, head spins and variations of spins. Our students will also learn proper eating habits, hygiene, physical fitness, leadership, dance choreography, photography & videography.
Also through your hard work, contributions and dedication to the dance, you will be invited to perform onstage with the North City Rockers Breaking Crew in events that we participate in throughout the region.
